NARRATIVE
The Erratics were kindly given a young spare player by Fernhurst — Darren Greenaway — to bring their strength up to eleven. Weather: hot and sunny.
The early Erratics attack kept the score pegged back (the 100 did not come up until the 30th over), but the Fernhurst batsmen launched an assault on the later bowlers. Brian Berrigan alone achieved success with the ball, including the Fernhurst No. 3 trapped lbw just three runs short of his century. The Erratics suffered two fielding casualties — Matthew Neal leaving the field quite early with stomach cramps, and James Rivington limping off later with a pulled hamstring.
The Erratics innings started slowly (after nine overs the score was 9-1), but then Martin Parsley came out of his shell to savage the Fernhurst bowling (his innings included six boundaries). Peter Andrews was unlucky to fall victim to Chris Dunabin’s umpiring. Bill Bush’s whirlwind performance included 25 runs hit off nine balls faced — before falling to the tenth. Time ran out before either side could clinch victory.
